20:48.660 --> 20:51.660 When I first started up here, it was kind of a hit or a mess. 20:51.660 --> 20:53.660 I mean it was difficult. 20:53.660 --> 20:55.660 You could hear people talking about it. 20:55.660 --> 20:59.660 It wasn't anything like it is now. 21:00.660 --> 21:02.660 It was, you were lucky. 21:02.660 --> 21:08.660 Unless you went with a guide that knew obviously the flow is better than you did and knew where 21:08.660 --> 21:12.660 to go, it was difficult for just the average Joe to find walleye. 21:12.660 --> 21:17.660 You go to the spots that you would read about and so on but the chances of catching them. 21:17.660 --> 21:20.660 And actually back in those days, there wasn't a size limit on a walleye. 21:20.660 --> 21:25.660 People were taking fish out there were eight, ten inches long in keeping them. 21:26.660 --> 21:30.660 So I don't know if that decimated the population but it wasn't really good for it. 21:30.660 --> 21:34.660 And then yeah, it wasn't the greatest. 21:34.660 --> 21:38.660 So researchers talk a lot about opportunistic fishermen. 21:38.660 --> 21:41.660 If one species isn't there, you'll find another species. 21:41.660 --> 21:44.660 And if you wanted to be here and walleye weren't readily available, 21:44.660 --> 21:46.660 you're not going to turn into a die-hard walleye fisherman. 21:46.660 --> 21:48.660 No, no, no, no. 21:48.660 --> 21:52.660 Typically, we didn't specifically seek out walleye. 21:52.660 --> 21:55.660 I mean, it was a bonus if you caught one. 21:55.660 --> 21:59.660 But we were up here for the panfish to take home. 21:59.660 --> 22:02.660 If you got a walleye, oh, awesome. 22:02.660 --> 22:05.660 But normally it was crappies and blue gills in the spring. 22:05.660 --> 22:08.660 And in the summertime, fishing is kind of tough. 22:08.660 --> 22:10.660 So you take what you get. 22:10.660 --> 22:14.660 And in the fall, well, we were typically up here in the fall if we come up for musky fishing 22:14.660 --> 22:17.660 and that was about it. We didn't fish anything else. 22:17.660 --> 22:21.660 So for some of the other people that were up here, was it kind of that same thing? 22:21.660 --> 22:23.660 You know, what's just nice to be on the water? 25:34.660 --> 25:37.660 You were talking before a little bit about some of the shift that's occurred 25:37.660 --> 25:39.660 with the fish population that are in here. 25:39.660 --> 25:40.660 Right. 25:40.660 --> 25:44.660 And you've seen some of that change over the years and maybe some of the evidence 25:44.660 --> 25:47.660 that people are talking about what's being done work. 25:47.660 --> 25:49.660 Well, yes, absolutely. 25:49.660 --> 25:51.660 The walleye population, it's amazing. 25:51.660 --> 25:58.660 And a lot of it I see online, basically, the guides are really good about posting stuff 25:58.660 --> 26:02.660 when they take guys out to fish, obviously they're promoting their business. 26:02.660 --> 26:06.660 But in the same token, it's promoting the walleye fishing. 26:06.660 --> 26:11.660 I mean, I would say five years ago, maybe, yeah, I would say five years ago. 26:11.660 --> 26:13.660 It wasn't like it is now. 26:13.660 --> 26:14.660 I mean, there are walleyes. 26:14.660 --> 26:19.660 There were a lot of what the guys called shorts, stuff that was under the slot limit. 26:19.660 --> 26:27.660 And so you could slowly starting to see the evolution of the fish starting to get to the point 26:27.660 --> 26:31.660 where, I mean, yeah, you'd catch a big fish every once in a while. 26:31.660 --> 26:34.660 But nine times out of ten, we always called them cigars. 26:34.660 --> 26:36.660 They were little big, short ones. 26:36.660 --> 26:43.660 Or they were just, they weren't big enough that really an average, honest fisherman wouldn't keep. 26:43.660 --> 26:46.660 And it's just progressively gotten better. 26:46.660 --> 26:50.660 And the slot limit seems to have made a big difference. 26:50.660 --> 26:56.660 Like I said, I think the lake association, the people that own the resorts around here 26:56.660 --> 27:03.660 that put all the effort into this stuff have really made a big impact on doing research 27:03.660 --> 27:09.660 and basically seeking out experts. 27:09.660 --> 27:10.660 How can we make this better?
