00:00:09,376 --> 00:00:12,613
Wisconsin, K-12 schools
were closed Friday due to

4
00:00:12,679 --> 00:00:16,517
extreme cold warnings. And
in a rare move, UW-Madison

5
00:00:16,583 --> 00:00:19,920
and many other campuses
across the state also

6
00:00:19,987 --> 00:00:23,724
canceled classes due to the
cold. The National Weather

7
00:00:23,790 --> 00:00:26,760
Service issued the warnings
with wind chill lows

8
00:00:26,827 --> 00:00:30,497
ranging from 40 to nearly
50 below zero. In the far

9

north. Cold weather
advisories remain in effect

10
00:00:33,934 --> 00:00:37,905
into Saturday. The all time
state record cold was back

11
00:00:37,971 --> 00:00:42,209
in 1996, when the weather
service posted a -55

12
00:00:43,610 --> 00:00:47,080
degrees. Wind chills as low
as 40 below zero can cause

13
00:00:47,147 --> 00:00:51,485
frostbite on exposed skin
in ten minutes. It's

14
00:00:51,552 --> 00:00:55,055
recommended if you go
outside to dress in layers,

15
00:00:55,122 --> 00:00:59,927
including a face mask.
